Audra Petraškienė was driving near a river near her home in Lithuania when she noticed a dog by the side of the road. The dog was all alone and soaking wet, so she stopped to see what was going on. That’s when she noticed what was around the dog’s neck. A makeshift anchor.
The dog had a an iron cube attached to a collar around his neck with a metal clasp.
Somehow the dog had survived the attempt on his life and had pulled himself out of a watery grave.
The spaniel was shivering and looked confused about what was going on when Audra approached him.
She posted a video of her rescue, so that she would have record for the authorities.
Scooping up the dog – now named “Toriukas”, Audra took him home and removed the terrible anchor from around his neck and took him to the veterinarian.
The dog was looked over and appears in good health.
Audra’s daughter, Andra told The Dodo, “I am very proud of her. She loves animals and always takes care of them.”
Andra reported the incident to police and Toriukas (Tori) is now in the care of VšĮ “Vyšnių sodas”, a rescue organization, while the dog’s case is under investigation. He will be neutered and receive a microchip.
The latest news reports indicate that the dog’s owner is not likely the one responsible. The dog is known to run free in the neighborhood and, appears to have fallen into the hands of someone, who then attempted to drown the dog.
Staff at VšĮ said it may have been a case of the unneutered dog getting “too friendly” with a neighbor’s un-spayed female dog. The head of the rescue said that the problem could have been easily solved by spaying and neutering the dogs, but instead the person attempted to solve the problem in a cruel way.
Audra is happy that Tori is in safe hands and that she was there to help. Her daughter added, “She will definitely do what’s best for this dog.”
