A giant dog was hanging around at a gas station on a highway around 100 miles from Athens, Greece when he was first spotted by woman who gives her name as E. He had a calm, silent demeanor, despite his emaciated frame and his mange-ravaged skin. His huge, green eyes stared tentatively at E.
“She fell in love, photographed him and went back to Athens leaving her heart there next to him, with a promise to be back soon. And she did. And I went with her,” says Valia Orfanidou, with Orphan Pet GR.
They returned 2 days later and spent hours at the gas station, “trying to help that giant who was asking for help, but at the same time refused to let us help him.”
But E. refused to give up. She sat down on the ground and did everything she could to coax the dog to her side. Slowly but surely, E. earned his trust.
“After catching him and putting him in the car everything was a piece of cake, because the giant is one of the most submissive and kind animals I have ever met,” explains Valia. They named the dog “Arnie”.
Arnie has come a long way since. He’s healthy, neutered and a very happy sweetheart of a dog. He’s now looking for a forever home with SCARS Greece (and all the volunteers are crazy about this lovable dog).
