A family dog is alive today thanks to firefighters who saved him from a burning home and worked hard to revive him. The Bakersfield Fire Department in California was called to a home fire and pulled the small white dog named Jack from the flames.
Jack the dog was unconscious and unresponsive but thanks to the quick work of firefighters, they resuscitated Shih Tzu with specialized animal oxygen mask.
The firefighters shared the emotional moment when Jack comes to in the Facebook video below.
The firefighters later revealed that they stopped recording at one point, when it looked like Jack might not make it. But thankfully he did, in large part due to the oxygen he received.
The department later added that the pet oxygen mask was supplied by the Girl Scouts, who have placed pet mask kits on every BFD Fire Engine thanks to two girls who raised over $2000 to make sure all the Bakersfield firefighter units have the life-saving devices.
BFD firefighters immediately transported Jack to a local veterinary clinic for follow-up assessment and treatment. A short time later, they announced that Jack had significantly improved and has been reunited with his family.
“Jack spent the night receiving extensive oxygen therapy and suffered some respiratory tract injuries and burns to his feet, but is doing well now under a veterinarian’s care,” they posted on Facebook.
He also got a visit from BFD Fire Engineer Matt Smith, who carried Jack from the house. Smith visited Jack at hospital to check on him and give him a reassuring hug.
