Tragic event: A terrified and completely withdrawn puppy was brought back from a foster home to a shelter.

The chances of regaining an 11-month-old puppy’s trust in humans are rapidly eroding at Houston’s BARC Animal Shelter. Scarlett’s foster parents intervened two weeks ago to save the puppy’s life, but they have since conceded that they lack the requisite abilities to manage a dog this fearful and shut down.

Scarlet arrived to the shelter as a stray on May 10, 2023. She weighed 45 pounds and was classified as a Labrador retriever mix. She first cowered in a shelter corner, rejected rewards, and shivered and flinched whenever anybody approached her.

The dog was scheduled to be put down on May 15, but a BARC foster stepped in and rescued her just in time.

And she’s returned. It’s not Scarlet’s fault; she wasn’t aware that people may be kind just now. We need an experienced foster parent, someone who understands how to care for dogs like Scarlett.

Please notify reliable rescue groups, friends, family, and social media connections about her plight. Sharing has the potential to save lives.
