Often, the mention of the iconic 1970 Dodge Charger conjures up images of V8 engines, raw power, and smoke-filled mayhem on the drag strips of yesteryear. But not every Charger got built for speed. Dodge released 300 models with the more modest Chrysler 225 inline-six engine. These muscle cars have become collector’s items in recent decades, and one has made its way to Nick’s Garage in Quebec, Canada.
HOTCARS VIDEO OF THE DAY
In his latest YouTube video, he must get this classic car roadworthy so it can cruise the highways once more.
1970 Dodge Charger With The Slant Six Engine
As this video begins, Nick explains that lately he’s been getting a lot of vintage Dodge Chargers from this era to work on. So, when a tarnished 1970 model came his way, he wasn’t exactly overjoyed at the prospect of working on it. The owner wants Nick to fix up the mechanical side of the car so that it can pass inspection and get certified as roadworthy.
The owner has recently sanded down the car in preparation for a new paint job. It takes Nick a little time to identify its true color as burnt orange metallic. He then notes that the orange interior of this vintage Dodge Charger is rather unique, which hints at the model’s rarity.
Despite being over 50 years old, this car has just under 60,000 miles on the clock. This indicates that previous owners have treated it kindly over the years. This is also apparent in the condition of the interior which is all original.
The engine is also in reasonable condition, and it’s this that interests Nick the most. This car is a rare beast indeed because it is one of only three hundred 1970 Dodge Charger models that came with the Slant Six engine. Nick has seen more muscle cars than most during his career, and even he gets excited by the uniqueness of this model.
Driving This Rare 1970 Dodge Charger
Before any work can begin on this classic Dodge Charger, Nick must take it for a test drive to help identify any issues the car may have. The car starts without any problems and as Nick reverses out of his garage he points out that this is the first six-cylinder Charger that he’s ever driven.
This car is like a time machine that brings back memories for Nick as he cruises the roads. With great fondness, he recalls driving with his Dad in a six-cylinder 1973 Plymouth Duster many years before. Although only having 145 hp, the classic muscle car rides smoothly for Nick. He has to loosen up the brakes a little but overall, this car remains solid. Although most would associate the Charger with a V8 engine, it is interesting to see this example with something a little more unique.
