by A long-term shelter dog was heartbroken after the family coming to meet him never showed up. Kentucky Humane Society shared that Hendrix has been looking for a home for a very long time. So the shelter staff were excited when a potential adopter put in a request to meet him on January 18th, 2022.
Hendrix got all dressed up for the special day only for everyone to be disappointed.
Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) shared a post on Facebook showing Hendrix lying on the floor looking sad and wrote:
“Well, Hendrix is sad. He was supposed to meet a potential family today and he got all excited and dressed up… and they never showed.”

KHS continued, “Watching him wait excitedly for a family to come, only to be stood up, is devastating. We can’t stand seeing our sweet boy sad.”
“All of us at the Kentucky Humane Society love Hendrix so much and we just want him to have a great life with someone who will care about him as much as we do.”

They are unsure as to why the adopters didn’t come, but wanted to take the opportunity to highlight all of Hendrix’s great qualities.
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier and a Shar Pei “is house-trained, a professional toy destroyer, gives kisses, loves to nap, loves to go for walks, highly trainable and just a big snorting goofball!”
Hendrix had been rescued from a crowded rural shelter before arriving at KHS, but like many long-term shelter residents, he has been overlooked so far. But the shelter staff say Hendrix “has the biggest heart out there and so much love to give.”
They say that Hendrix will do best in a home where he is the only animal.
There are some positive points as result of the family’s no show. Firstly, it’s better that Hendrix and the shelter staff knows earlier rather than later that the family had changed their mind. Much better for him to be still at the shelter than be returned to the shelter at a later date. And as KHS wrote, we don’t know what life circumstances might have prevented the family from not showing.

The Kentucky Humane Society wrote an update to their original post after the potential adopters received a lot of negative backlash writing, “… the purpose of the post is to help our longest resident find his forever home. We’re grateful for the support but please remember to show kindness and respect to our fellow humans as well as our animal friends. You never know what a family may be going through.”
The second positive outcome is that Hendrix has receive a number of applications and is meeting with potential adopters! KHS wrote, “Hendrix has received a huge amount of applications following this post and will be meeting potential families today! We’ll keep everyone updated on when he finds his perfect fit.”

KHS announced wonderful news, “Hendrix has left the building! He went home yesterday with a foster-to-adopt family and we are so happy for him.”
