Sometimes it pays off to have your mugshot plastered all over the Internet. At least it did for one dog. After being picked up by police, a pug got his mugshot taken, or as the Cape May Police Department in New Jersey called it, his “pugmug”.
They posted the runaway pug’s pugmug on social media and wrote, “This is what happens when you run away from home. This guy was captured sneaking through yards on the 1300 block on New Jersey Avenue. #pugmug”
Although humorous, the Cape May police posted the dog’s mugshot in order to help locate his owners.
In the meantime, the pug was incarcerated so he would stay safe.
People from all over Facebook shared the funny pictures.
“How cute is this? Kudos Cape May Police Dept Police for finding this little guy. I hope the owner was found. In addition, Kudos to you guys for having fun with this,” Christopher Munoz wrote in a comment.
“Thank you from Baltimore, MD for taking such good care of one of our four legged runaways. I hope his time in the slammer has set him straight and put him back on the road to a crime free life,” Lily Lottes wrote.
And, wouldn’t you know it, the pugmug did the trick. The pug has been reunited with his owner.
“We use social media a lot. It’s a great way to reach a lot of people. You can reach a ton of people. It’s a great way for us to get investigative leads,” Cape May Police chief Anthony Marino told The Dodo. “And sure enough, someone who saw the Facebook post knew the dog’s owner and got in touch with them. We were able to reunite the dog and her owner. Everyone found it funny, but it ended up finding the owner for us.”
