Revving Up Classic Style with Modern Power: 1993 BMW 325is Upgraded with LS1 V8 Engine

Cameron Carr took on the challenge of upgrading his 1994 BMW 325is, which had previously belonged to a close friend. Unfortunately, the car’s original 2.5 L M50B25TU inline-six engine suffered significant damage when a connecting rod punched a hole through the oil pan. Although his friend had planned to replace the engine with a powerful LSx V8, the project was put on hold due to life’s demands. Cameron stepped in to pick up where his friend left off and make the engine swap a reality.

As a skilled mechanic, Cameron successfully converted his BMW from an empty shell to a fully functional daily driver in less than a year. He began the transformation by outfitting the car with a powerful 5.7 L LS1 V8 engine sourced from a 2000 Camaro. To enhance its performance, Cameron added a “Best Cam” camshaft from Sloppy Mechanics and PAC 1218 valve springs. The engine is fueled by a set of FIC 445 cc injectors, which receive a steady flow of gas from an Aeromotive 340 lph pump.

To further optimize performance, Cameron coupled the LS1 V8 engine with a T56 six-speed manual transmission taken from a 2004 Pontiac GTO, which was enhanced with upgraded internal components. A one-piece driveshaft was also installed to efficiently transfer power to a welded differential featuring 3.91 gears and M3 axles.

Cameron also took steps to upgrade the car’s suspension system, replacing it with aftermarket coilovers in the front and a M3 rear subframe for better stability and handling. The BMW now rests on a set of Apex Arc 8 17×8.5-inch wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson Street Comp 245-45R17 tires, providing excellent grip and traction. The car’s front brakes remain factory standard, while M3 rear brakes were added for improved stopping power.
