Knowing that finding a family would be difficult, Big Mac came to the McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Giant dogs were afraid of new people and quarreled in shelters.
“I don’t know what his living conditions were like before he came to live with us, but it was clear he didn’t trust anyone right away,” the shelter said. ‘s support director Lauren Mann told The Dodo. “When he came out of the crate, he was warming himself up with treats and a playground.”

Mann said Big Mac’s owner let him go last December because “we didn’t have time to keep him and we had to move.” A shelter needs someone who is patient, loving, and willing to convince abandoned puppies that humans aren’t all terrible. But over time, Big Mac became the shelter’s longest-living resident.
And 260 days later, a miracle happened. Big Mac has left the McKamey Animal Center for good. One of the shelter volunteers agreed to welcome the dog into her home, and she fell in love with the once-terrifying dog and decided to adopt him as a permanent member of her family. .
“When a colleague of mine took him home as a foster, she said from the first night he slept for about 12 hours straight and really opened up and wanted to play with other dogs and cats.” said Mann. “[He] scored out of 180 and was a great dog overall.”

The shelter worker’s dog has taught Mac to trust him again. “Their pet dog was kind and protective of him. If they were going for a walk and he was a little nervous, their dog would say, ‘No, I’m fine,’” Mann said. explained.
“And he told me that everything was fine and that people could be trusted.” Munn and her crew wanted to do something special to mark Big Mac’s recent move out of the shelter and home with her new mother.
The shelter staff gathered at the entrance and gave a standing ovation as the building’s oldest occupants were the last to leave. “His new mother was amazed at how well he was coping,” Mann said. “It just shows that he’s much better at dealing with stranger dangers.” He just wanted to go home.” Now a loving family member, Big Mac has a new family that never disappoints.
