LS3-Powered 1937 Chevrolet Business Coupe 6-Speed

This 1937 Chevrolet Business Coupe underwent a custom build by Killer Hot Rods & Customs in 2021, boasting a 416ci LS3 V8 engine mated to a Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission. Finished in olive green with a saddle vinyl interior, it sits on a Street Rod Garage chassis with independent front suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, Wilwood disc brakes, Strange Engineering coilover shocks, and a Ford 9″ rear axle. Additional enhancements include Holley fuel injection, Hooker exhaust headers, a 3″ ceramic-coated Flowmaster exhaust, Circle Racing aluminum wheels, Classic Instruments gauges, Old Air Hurricane A/C, and a Retrosound Bluetooth audio system. The car, sold on BaT in July 2022, had its engine rebuilt in November 2022 and is now offered on dealer consignment in California, complete with a car cover, service records, magazine features, and a clean Florida title.

The body modifications include integration with the Street Rod Garage chassis, shaved bumpers and trim, and a fresh olive green finish from the previous ownership. Key exterior features include an Alumicraft polished grille, a center-hinged hood with side louvers, a split windshield, dual wipers, running boards, twin mirrors, and a side-mount antenna.

The black-finished Circle Racing wheels measure 18×8″ in the front and 20×12″ in the rear, wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires. The chassis incorporates a four-link rear suspension, stainless steel brake lines, and Wilwood Dynalite disc brakes with slotted and drilled rotors.

Inside, bomber-style seats are upholstered in saddle vinyl with matching door panels and beige loop-pile carpets. The cabin also features lap belts, Wilwood pedals, a Lokar handbrake, sound damping material, a Retrosound Bluetooth stereo, four Infinity speakers, and an Old Air Hurricane air conditioning system with a hidden control panel, serviced in August 2023.

The sprint-style steering wheel frames Classic Instruments gauges, including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The Holley fuel injection system’s display is mounted under the dash near the shifter, and the odometer shows about 1,700 miles, though the total mileage is unknown.

The trunk is fitted with a fuel cell and beige carpeting, with the battery housed in the passenger-side storage box.

Initially custom-built by Don Hardy and later rebuilt by MS Classic Cars in 2022, the LS-based 416ci V8 features Chevrolet-script valve covers, a Holley Terminator X fuel system, Russell Performance fuel lines, a stainless steel fuel tank, Hooker headers, a 3″ Flowmaster exhaust, Magnaflow mufflers, an aluminum radiator, a Concept One serpentine belt system, and SPAL electric fans. The engine produced a peak of 636 horsepower, as shown in a 2020 dynamometer test sheet. A coolant line was repaired, and the oil changed in August 2023.

Power is delivered through the Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission, a 3.5″ drive shaft, and a Ford 9″ positraction rear with 3.7:1 gearing and 31-spline axles. The car is equipped with a McLeod RST Stage 2 twin-disc clutch, with the clutch master cylinder replaced in 2022.
