An impromptu walk lead to an unexpected laugh for photographer Brook Goldman. She was sleepily walking through New York City after having dropped her travel-bound boyfriend off at the train station early in the morning, when she came across an unusual sight.
There, in a makeshift nativity scene out front of a building was a cat. A cat, who had taken up residence in the manger, to be exact. Sitting in the red basket where baby Jesus should be was a grumpy-looking cat.
His scowl immediately lifted Goldman’s mood. “I was laughing my ass off,” she tells The Dodo. “I guess you can definitely say he brought me joy while I was walking home. It was mood-lifting, most definitely.”
She decided to grab a keepsake and snapped a photo of the cat in a manger. As Goldman says, “a good animal pic can cure anything” and this photo was worth sharing.
The picture certainly has had the effect of spreading happiness. Since Goldman posted the image, it’s gone viral all over the world.
“I’m honestly in awe,” Goldman told Reshareworthy.com of her cat photo’s popularity. “It started off as a silly image in my neighborhood that is now being posted and shared all over the Internet.”
“I’m being interviewed, and it’s becoming a meme. This is a dream come true in the goofiest of ways. All of my friends are freaking out about it and love it.”
She says she’s had so much positive feedback. “The whole thing is so hilarious,” Goldman says. “I frankly can’t get over the whole thing because it truly is one of the funniest things that has ever happened to me.”
