Forest is a puppy who catches the eye and stands out among his siblings. That’s because he’s green! Louise Sutherland from Scotland was shocked when her Golden Retriever, Rio, gave birth to nine puppies, including Forest. Forest isn’t the first puppy ever born green, but it is a rare occurrence.
Veterinarians say that the green fur is caused by an exposure to biliverdin – a green bile pigment found in the mother’s placenta. The green fur fades away within a few weeks.
While Rio’s other puppies will soon be going to loving homes, Sutherland plans on keeping Forest.
