Dog Tossed In Trash Pile For Peeing Indoors Is Getting A Fresh Start

A dog dumped on a trash pile and at risk of being euthanized has found a safe place after a South Carolina animal rescue saved her. Sydney (formerly known as Sadie) was found in a dumpster by Cumberland County Animal Services in Fayetteville, North Carolina, after her owner abandoned her there. Soon after, they put out a call for help.

“Sadie needs a 501c3 rescue NOW! She is in isolation for an upper respiratory infection, and we need a kennel in that area,” they wrote on a Facebook post on July 8. “Sadie is Rescue Only because she bit her owner after being provoked. Sadie pottied in the house and she bit her owner after being physically disciplined. After the incident, the owner threw her in the dumpster.”

They added, “She is now in danger of being euthanized. We really want to see this girl find her forever.” The shelter couldn’t put Sydney up for adoption because of her alleged bite history, and because their shelter was overflowing, they couldn’t keep her long. That’s when Victoria McGonigal, owner of Dochas N Gra Animal Rescue, who is one of the shelter’s rescue partners, was contacted.

Victoria agreed to take Sydney and give the dog the care and time she needed to recover and to give Sydney a fresh start. Victoria often helps the shelter with their medical cases and she recognized that the shelter needed help. She thanked the shelter for taking good care of Sydney in a difficult situation and finding her help.

As soon as Sydney arrived at Victoria’s animal sanctuary, she went to the vet for treatment of her respiratory infection. She’s also gotten to meet several of the other residents and made some new friends.

Victoria updated everyone on Sydney and said that she “is doing great. She is a very sweet loving girl.”

Sydney loves getting kisses from the horses.

Apparently, Sydney is a working dog and she will be helping Victoria on the farm for a while. Then Victoria will see if Sydney is ready to be put up for adoption.

Pupdate:

Dochas N Gra Animal Rescue suffered a flood on July 26, but thankfully none of the animals were hurt. In fact, several of the senior herding dogs in their care helped keep the farm animals safe.
