Houdini the dog first appeared at the Port of San Pedro in Los Angeles two years ago. Many people tried to catch him during that time, including animal control. But that did not dissuade Hope For Paws, who was determined to catch the clever, evasive dog, who they named “Houdini”.
They had no luck the first day, and on Day 2 Houdini knew something was up and sent the rescuers on a wild chase to catch him. That’s when they knew they needed a bigger strategy and more people to catch the wiley dog. Again, on Day 3, Houdini gave them the slip several times before Eldad Hagar was able to snare him. It took them a while to calm the dog, as he had not been touched by a person for 2 years.
One of the dock workers, Mike, who helped feed and care for Houdini, helped calm him so they could get him to the vet. And it’s what happened at the vet, that brought happy tears to his rescuers’ eyes.
