Adventurous Goat Stuck On Snowy Mountain Grateful To See Rescuers

A goat who got lost in the Austrian Alps is safe at home thanks to an alpine rescue team that came to her rescue.

Gretl the goat was first spotted by two mountaineers hiking to Mount Olperer, a 11,404-foot-tall mountain in Tux-Finkenberg.

The little goat followed the two hikers up to the summit like the expert climber she is, but refused to follow them down despite their efforts. Instead she wandered off.

The goat definitely not where she should be, and given the harsh cold, her survival was in question.

A day later she was spotted by a gondola operator, who contacted an alpine rescue group from Tux-Finkenberg.

The four member team began the arduous trek up the steep north slope to find her. They eventually located her and the young goat was grateful to see them.

This time, Gretl was too tired to walk away and was thankful to be carried down.

She was hoisted onto a rescuer’s shoulders and carried down the peak.

Tux-Finkenberg said it was perhaps their “most unusual” rescue mission ever.

Gretl enjoyed a more restful, scenic ride down in the gondola and got a bucket of leafy greens when safely at the bottom of the peak.

She also got taken in by a goat farm while her owner was located.

She’s now safely at home. Although it’s unclear how Gretl ventured so far from home, hopefully she put her adventuring days behind her.
