Adopted Stray Dog Becomes The Most Adorable Friar In Monastery

When the friars at a Francisan monastery in Cochabamba, Bolivia posted photos of their latest member, they didn’t know that he would become a viral sensation. The good-humored friars dressed up the dog they adopted from an animal rescue in the traditional Franciscan garb as a humorous gesture, but it has gone on to win the hearts of millions of people around the world and to help encourage animal adoption.

Carmelo had formerly been a stray, according to The Dodo. “His life is all about playing and running,” Jorge Fernandez said. “Here, all of the brothers love him very much. He is a creature of God.”

And for those wondering, Carmelo doesn’t wear the robes all the time, it was just for this special occasion. He certainly joined the right order. The founder of the Franciscan order is St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
