A lonely dog has been waiting at a shelter for 2,531 days, hoping for one human to love her.

Regardless of how hard no-kill animal shelters work to find permanent homes for the animals in their care, a dog is sometimes missed by prospective adopters, despite the shelter’s best efforts.

One of these canines is Dahlia. The Santa Barbara Humane Society has been home to the American Staffordshire Terrier Mix her whole life. She came when she was six months old. The shelter’s oldest inhabitant, at 7 years old, is in need of a permanent home, and volunteers are striving to give him one.

“She is a wonderfully sweet, clever, loving, loyal big lap dog,” one of the shelter workers said. She is a gorgeous, intelligent, affectionate, and devoted huge lap dog… “I’m looking for an excellent single pet home for her.”She’s going to make someone extremely happy!”

The shelter’s request did not go unanswered. Daliah was adopted shortly after the Humane Society published their appeal! A guy from Orange County went to the shelter to see her after watching her tale on TV.

The Humane Society is overjoyed. In a statement, they said, “We are over the moon!” Those of you who have asked about Dahlia’s health…She’s finally found her forever home!! Thank you to everyone who spread the word about her story and contacted us!”
