It doesn’t take much to make Petunia the duck happy. The duck was rescued by Chantel Grant when she was just a duckling. Chantel found Petunia when she was still in her shell – the egg abandoned by her mother. Chantel looked frantically for Petunia’s mom and siblings but couldn’t find them anywhere.
When the duckling hatched, Chantel tried to find a wildlife care facility for her but was told they would have to kill the duckling.
“I called some local wildlife care centers, and asked if they were able to rehab her,” Chantel told The Dodo. “They said that because she’s an invasive species, they would have to euthanize her. So that’s how we ended up with a duck! I would never let anything like that happen to her.”
That’s how Chantel unexpectedly became a duck mom. Now Petunia lives inside with Chantel’s family and just like a dog she greets her adopted human mom at the door.
She waddles and quacks and is so excited to see her.
