This 1972 Chevrolet El Camino was reportedly purchased new by its current owner and has been refinished in gold with a black vinyl interior. It’s equipped with a replacement 350ci V8 engine paired with a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Features include power steering, power-assisted front disc brakes, 15″ American Racing wheels, and air conditioning. The car is being offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with service records from 1999 to the present and comes with a clean California title.
Originally finished in Placer Gold (53) from the factory, the car was repainted in 2005. Exterior features include a drop-down tailgate, spray-in bedliner, hood louvers, and chrome bumpers and trim. However, the right rear turn signal and brake light are non-functional, and the El Camino emblem on the right front fender has been broken and removed. Rust perforations are present at the bottom of the tailgate, one of the fenders has a hole, and paint bubbling can be seen near the driver’s door handle. The left rear quarter panel shows signs of prior repairs, and the interior panel near the fuel filler is wrinkled. Additional paint imperfections are documented in the gallery.
The 15″ American Racing wheels are fitted with 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that are around 16 years old and require replacement. The car has power steering, with braking handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The seller notes that the idler arm needs replacement and the vehicle requires alignment.
Inside, the cabin features a bench seat reupholstered in black vinyl, along with matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Air conditioning is present, but the aftermarket stereo is non-functional.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph horizontal speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer reads 36k miles, though the seller notes it has rolled over. The gear selector indicator is inoperative, and the horn doesn’t work.
A replacement 350ci V8 engine was installed in 1999, with the EGR valve disconnected. The engine experiences a rough idle when cold. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via the three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The torque converter cover is missing, and there is visible corrosion on some underside components.
