The photographers are aiming to win, but they are also out to bring a bit of joy into people’s lives. The funny pet competition was created just for that purpose – to celebrate the positive and vital role pets have in our lives and to encourage engagement around animal welfare.
This year, there are hilarious photos like one of a cat stuck in a wall and another of a very happy donkey. We’re sharing a selection of the 30 finalists out to win that you can take a look at below. Let’s start with this “high-fiving” dog!
This “Dancing queen” is Pepper the pointer dog who is from Germany.
Just like a Super Mario video game, this cat “is in a trap.” Well, not really. The cat, who lives in Fukuoka, Japan is just fine but maybe a bit too curious?
Everybody is kung fu fighting! Sylvia says of her photos, “I made this picture in Toggenburg [Switzerland].I threw a few snowballs and my dog jumped after them with great enthusiasm. That’s how this picture came about.”
This rescued cat living in Japan decided to do his best Tarzan impression.
Peek-a-boo! Sylvia noticed her dog hiding in the snow in Grindelwald, Switzerland so that only his ears were sticking out!
These cats are having secret talk about where should they fish on the island. (The pair live in Fukuoka Japan.)
When Loki the cat sees a lion perched on the couch he goes over to ask “Who are you?”
After sprinting around with Noah and completing some training, Benji the donkey was exhausted, almost wanting an afternoon nap!
“Look ma, no eyes!” This Golden Doodle flashes the photographer a smile.
Who are these nosey neighbors? They are Emma’s two cats, Bluebell the Tonkinese and Simba, the snow bengal, during Covid lockdown. “They are spying on the neighbours who are breaking rules!! ‘Lets act like Meerkats; they’ll never know its us.’”
“Edgar loves to eat flowers, and her favourites are dandelions for spring, snapdragons for summer and here she can be seen gobbling as whole Gertrude Jekyll rose last September. We grow them for her and as she is elderly we hand feed her, sometimes snapping her in between bites as you can see…,” says owner and photographer Jonathan.
“This beautiful and athletic gelding loves to try to fly off the ground! This is one of the series of leaps he performs,” says Debby.
“It’s fu…. cold!…Our dog (Bolonka Zwetna lady “Eilean) had a lot of fun in the snow, but unfortunately ice crystals always stick to his paws.”
Says Diann, “Our cat Grey making a new friend in the pool.”
“Every morning, my dog wakes me up by lying on my chest until I open my eyes,” says Lock of his Cocker Spaniel.
When Hector saw the cat do it he thought he’d give it a try…”and this is about as far as he got before reversing out the way he came. But the cat made it look so easy.”
