1972 Chevrolet El Camino 402

This 1972 Chevrolet El Camino was originally purchased through Duncan Chevrolet in Brady, Texas, featuring options such as tinted glass, a vinyl roof, front disc brakes, power steering, tilt wheel, heavy-duty radiator, air conditioning, and a 402ci Turbo-Jet V8 engine paired with a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Between 2016 and 2018, the truck underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, which included mechanical overhauls, new 15×8″ rally wheels, suspension lowering, exterior refinishing, trim replacement, and interior reupholstering. It was last listed on BaT by the selling dealer in July 2024 and is now available again in New York, complete with original purchase documents, a service summary, and a clean Texas title.

The El Camino’s body, originally finished in Cranberry Red with a vinyl top and tinted windows, received significant attention during the restoration. It was repainted between 2017 and 2018, with undercoating applied in 2019, and replacement of trim components, a new gloss-white vinyl top, and re-plated chrome bumpers.

The refurbished 15″ Rally wheels, with center caps and trim rings, were fitted alongside 255/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The suspension was lowered by 1.5″ in the front and 2″ in the rear, and both the power steering and front disc brakes were also overhauled.

Inside, the truck was outfitted with tan upholstery, air conditioning, a remote-controlled mirror, an electric clock, and a push-button radio. The interior was refreshed by Legendary Auto Interiors in 2017, with reupholstered seats, door panels, and headliner, along with new insulation beneath replacement carpeting.

The original steering wheel was reconditioned in 2017 and sits in front of a 120-mph speedometer and fuel-level gauge. The odometer shows 8,000 miles, though the total mileage is unclear.

The factory-equipped 402ci Turbo-Jet LS3 V8, rated at 240 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque, saw numerous updates during the refurbishment. These included the installation of new exhaust manifolds, a re-cored radiator, a replacement water pump, and alternator, along with an 800-cfm Quadrajet “stage 1” carburetor. The three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was rebuilt in 2018, and the fuel tank was repaired in January 2021. The truck also features a dual exhaust system with a crossover pipe.

The original window sticker, showing delivery to Duncan Chevrolet and a total price of $4,637.35, along with a detailed service summary and records, is included with the sale.
