51-Years-Owned 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-Door Sedan

This 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air four-door sedan commenced its journey at Lyman Slack Motors in Portland, Oregon, where it resided with its inaugural owner until the seller’s acquisition in 1973. An overbored 350ci V8 engine and a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission were integrated in 1981. The vehicle boasts a Tropical Turquoise exterior, complemented by turquoise vinyl with black and gray cloth insert interior. The ensemble includes an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and intake manifold, chrome 14″ reverse wheels, chrome bumpers, and hooded headlights, alongside a push-button AM radio, a cabin heater, and front and rear bench seats. Recent refurbishments since 2019 include a carburetor rebuild, the addition of MSD ignition, and the replacement of brake components. The Bel Air is presently available with service documentation, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Oregon title registered in the seller’s name.

The vehicle’s Tropical Turquoise finish is accentuated by quad hooded headlights, quad taillights, back-up lights, and chrome window surrounds, bumpers, and trim, supplemented by a wraparound windshield and rear window. Front end damage was rectified prior to the seller’s ownership, and repainting is noted on the front fenders, around the antenna, the front right door, and on paint chips. There are dents on the rear trim and rear bumper, rock chips on the windshield, and bubbling on the side glass.

The chrome 14″ reverse wheels, adorned with baby moon hubcaps, are fitted with BFGoodrich Belted T/A 70 tires which require replacement due to age. The seller mentions a cyclical hum during driving. Drum brake components were replaced in 2019, and rear air shocks have been installed.

Inside, the cabin is fitted with front and rear bench seats upholstered in turquoise vinyl with black and gray cloth inserts. Features include a cabin heater, wind-up windows, window vents, and a tube-style push-button AM radio. The clock is disconnected, the AM radio is slow to warm up, and the replacement carpets are stained on the passenger side. Wear is observed on the headliner, two door panels, and door handles. The gas pedal was repaired in 2019.

The two-spoke steering wheel, featuring a chrome horn ring, frames a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. A tachometer and readouts for oil pressure, temperature, and charging are mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, with approximately 20k accrued under current ownership. The seller notes that the speedometer was disconnected when the replacement engine was installed, thus total mileage is indeterminate.

The 350ci V-8 engine, sourced from an early 1970s Chevrolet pickup, is bored .030″ over and was installed in 1981. It is equipped with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and intake manifold, MSD ignition, and a chrome alternator. Work in 2020 included rebuilding the carburetor and adding MSD ignition components.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a three-speed TH350 automatic transmission installed in 1981.
