A sheriff’s deputy happened to be in the right place at the right time for a lost dog named Ruger. While investigating a suspicious vehicle on the roadside at 1 a.m. in the morning, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputy Hammell left his patrol car door open. When he returned a few minutes later he was shocked to discover Ruger sitting in the passenger seat!
Ruger couldn’t tell the deputy what was the matter, but he was wearing a tag.
“Ruger had made himself comfortable while Dispatch located his owner’s address from the information listed on his collar,” the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office wrote online. “He fell fast asleep in the warm patrol car as his owners were located.”
It turns out Ruger had gone missing earlier in the evening. The smart dog knew enough to find himself some help!
“Deputy Hammell gave him a ride home and Ruger’s owners were very pleased to see him as they had been looking for him all evening,” writes the sheriff’s office, adding: “We enjoyed having him for a short ride along this morning and are thankful we were able to return him to his family.”
I’m sure Ruger is very thankful too! Share this cute story with your family and friends!
