It was love at first sight for actor Liev Schreiber when he saw the puppies backstage at “Live with Kelly & Ryan”. After appearing on the TV show as a guest, Schreiber adopted two puppies from Hurricane Harvey who were also guests for the morning broadcast, and had been moved from a Texas shelter to make room for dogs displaced by the floods.
The actor made sure to get the family’s seal of approval first, and used Facetime on his phone to show the puppies off to his two kids and ex-wife Naomi Watts, before picking a boy and a girl. The cute “behind the scenes” selection process was filmed by the TV show and is in the video below:
The puppies were rescued by Home for Good Dogs Rescue in New Jersey, one of many shelters in the United States who pitched in to help animal shelters in Texas affected by the floods.
The rescue arranged for pilots to fly to Texas and drop off much needed supplies, and they returned with over 20 dogs seeking new homes. The rescue was invited to appear on Live with Kelly and Ryan and bring along some of the dogs needing homes.
Schreiber was one of the guests that morning and happily said ‘hello’ to each of the pups before selecting two adorable scruffy 3-month old puppies.
He packed up the pups and shared a few cute photos of the pair – now named Woody and Willow – on their way home. “Look what I just got,” he wrote. “Couple of orphans from Houston checking out the Big Apple for the first time.”

Here’s hoping that the other dogs with Home for Good Dogs Rescue don’t have too long to wait for their happy endings.
